Murphy To Play for the Jayhawks

Free State running back Brian Murphy knew all along he wanted to play college football with twin brother Ryan. The twins will have the chance to live out that dream. Ryan is on board as a verbal commitment, and Brian will play for the Jayhawks as well.

"I committed to KU yesterday," said Brian Murphy from Lawrence, (Kansas). "I committed to them because they want Ryan and I to both play offense. We both decided that Kansas would be the only place that would offer that to us."

"A big reason for my decision was because they want me to come in and play running back."

Murphy (5-8, 165-pounds) is electrifying with the ball in his hands. He recorded 1,035 yards and 11 touchdowns on 147 carries during his junior campaign. He also recorded 112 receiving yards and one touchdown. He averaged 30.5 yards per punt return, including one punt returned for a touchdown. He also passed for one touchdown.

He was recruited by Kansas co-defensive coordinator Clint Bowen, and Murphy has a long relationship with the coach.

"Coach Bowen is a great guy," he said. "I have known him since little league. He used to come to all of our games because our coach was his brother. I have always had a really good relationship with him."

Murphy is happy his decision is behind him.

"I am a hometown kid," he said. "I have witnessed the turn around of the program. Everyone in this town is really excited. I can see the direction this program is heading in." Top Stories
