Checking in with Jake Laptad

Jake Laptad, from Jenks, (Okla.), gave his verbal pledge to the Jayhawks while on his official visit to Lawrence. Laptad reflects on his decision and his official visit.

"I committed because I like the coaches a lot," Jake Laptad said. "I have family ties there. My grandpa went there. He didn't play there. He just attended the school."

Laptad attended one game this fall, and unfortunately the Jayhawks were on the losing team that weekend.

"I went to the Kansas-OSU game," he said. "It was fun. They lost, but I thought their defense played good."

Laptad was recruited by coach Bill Young as he continued, "They recruited me as a defensive end. They do the same technique as we do. I really enjoy coach Young. He is good to talk to. He has been everywhere including the NFL. He knows a whole lot and can teach me a whole lot."

The 6-4, 215-pound defensive end finished off a great senior season.

"We won state this year. It was great. I think I played pretty good." Laptad said.

"It went good," he said of his official visit. "James Holt was my host. He is a real cool guy. The facilities were really nice. The coaches are really open and just great people. They (coaches) are just great people in general. I loved my visit."

Laptad was recently named All-District in Oklahoma for his play at defensive end. Top Stories
