"It is a big release," the Scout.com two-star A.J. Steward said. "I feel blessed. I know there are a lot of athletes out there who don't get the chance to play Division-1 football. I am blessed an honored."
"I basically picked Kansas because they were with me for the long run, since day one. They were always there, and they didn't come in at the end. They were committed to me from the get-go. That was really just the big thing. I also like everyone up there. They are so positive. I think the program is going in the right direction."
What will the athletic quarterback bring to the table?
"I think I bring something that your traditional quarterback doesn't have," Steward said. "I can sit back in the pocket just like a drop-back passer or if the pocket breaks down I can make plays with my feet. I can create a lot of mismatches on defense because I can out-run linebackers. I think I can use my feet as extra weapons."
Steward talked about his senior stats.
"I threw for 1,500 yards and had 1,100 yards rushing," he said. "I had 32 touchdowns in all. I had 21 rushing and 11 passing. I also had seven interceptions on defense."
