Kansas Signee Tanner Hawkinson

Tanner Hawkinson, Scout.com four-star tight end from McPherson, Kansas, has signed and faxed his letter of intent for the Jayhawks.

Stats: 31 receptions for over 500 yards and five touchdowns. Jersey No.9

Accolades: Hawkinson was honored with the Top 11 All-State Players by the KFBCA (Coaches) and 5A All-State tight end in his senior season. He was also awarded League Offensive MVP.

Strengths: "I'm an athletic guy for my size, and I have reliable hands."

Needs work: "Guys in college are going to be bigger, so I can improve on my blocking."

Additional facts: Three-year letterman in football and two-year letterman in basketball, 3.5 GPA, 26 ACT, undecided major.

Hawkinson was born 5/14/90 and the son of Griff and Kathy Hawkinson.

Recruiting coach: "Coach [Clint] Bowen recruited me. He's a nice guy and is pretty laid back. He's easy to talk to, and we can talk about anything."

Expect to redshirt?: "I'd definitely like to play next year. The depth chart at tight end could work in my favor. But it's fine if I redshirt, because I can get stronger and learn the offense. Playing early will depend on how I transition from high school."

Why KU?: "Growing up in Kansas I've always followed them. I have a lot of family who are fans, and I'm familiar with the athletic program. They have really good coaches, and they recruited me hard. The opportunity to play early is also part of why I picked Kansas."
