Big Land for Kansas

Wolfeboro (NH) Brewster Academy coach Jason Smith knew that Thomas Robinson was on the verge of making a commitment. However, the 6-8 big man's coach figured he was safe travelling to do some admissions work for Brewster on Thursday. However, when Smith got back to campus he found out that his rugged big man was even further along than he thought.

“I got a text late last night from Kansas saying that Thomas had committed,” Smith told Phog.Net. “Then I got a text from Thomas this morninig confirming it. I just found out myself.”

While many had speculated that Robinson was a Kansas lean for sometime – particularly after a strong official visit to Lawrence for KU’s ring ceremony. Smith says that last weekend’s trip to Memphis made it a much more difficult decision for the star 17 year old.

“When he visited Kansas he had a phenominal trip and it was obviously very intstrumental getting to see the ring ceremony and everything,” said Smith. “I thought he was ready to commit after that weekend but it’s always good to take a couple visits for comparison purposes. After the Memphis trip the gap definitely closed a little bit and made the decision more difficult.”

In the end, comfort level with the staff, campus and current group of players put the final decision in Bill Self and the Jayhawks favor.

“I think he likes the tradition a lot,” said Smith. “He just kept saying that ‘I feel more comfortable with Kansas.’ “
