Snaer Done With Visits, Ponders Decision

Back in July, Michael Snaer figured that he would be done with the recruiting process sooner than later. Now, the six-foot-five inch guard from Moreno Valley (CA) Rancho Verde finds himself having taken a little longer to make a decision than he'd initially expected.

After a weekend visit to Kansas, the versatile performer has taken five official visits (Kansas, Florida State, Missouri, Marquette and UCLA) and is in a position where he has to start thinking about his decision. The hardest part, is figuring out where to start and how long it’s going to take to digest all the information he’s gathered.

“Right now I just need to talk it over with some people close to me,” said Snaer. “I really need to think about what I have to offer to each school and what they do for me. I can’t even tell you how long that’s going to be.”

Even though he’d like to get his college choice out of the way, Snaer also understands that he can’t rush it either.

“It’s going to be one of the biggest decisions I’ve had to make thus far,” Snaer told Phog.Net. “It’s going to take some time, but I pretty much know what I need to look at and think of.”

Where some recruits treat a recruiting visit like a business trip, Snaer had a different approach. He wanted to do as much as he could to immerse himself in each school’s environment and get a feel for what really goes on.

“I’m one of these dudes, I just like to have fun and see what the college atmosphere is like,” said Snaer. “I just want to know what it would be like to be a player there and soak it all in to get an idea for what to expect.”

Fresh off of his visit to Lawrence, Snaer said that his time with the Jayhawks rated highly.

“I really liked the players, I really feel like I got to know a little bit about each and every one of them,” said Snaer. “It was real cool being there, and seeing how I react with the players and of course the coaches.”

As for his experience at Late Night in the Phog, Snaer admitted that the fanfare he experienced was one of the things that attracted him to Kansas.

“The fans are crazy,” said Snaer of Kansas. “That’s one of the things that really attracted me to them. That’s one of the things that is really big to see, just how well they support the team.”

Looking ahead to his decision, Snaer will factor in several things. Not surprisingly, the feeling that he could make an instant impact will be important.

“I want to come in and be one of the guys who can be a factor in every game,” said Snaer of what he’s looking for. “I want to compete and be part of the reason why we win every game. Of course I’m looking to come in and start every game, but I don’t expect it to be promised to me and I know I’m going to have to work for it. I want a coach who will make me work for it too.”

Decision day, whenever it may be, is going to come as a relief to Snaer. For him, it’s just a matter of figuring out which school most feels like home.

“Every school has fans and they can all get crazy,” said Snaer. “But, all I know is that there are certain places that you go to and they feel like home. I just need to figure out where that is for me.”
