His Wildcats are now 0-3 against KU. This marked the first time since 1988-90 that KU’s won three straight games over the K-State. Kansas has won four of the last five games in the series, and is now bowl eligible for the fourth consecutive year.
*The Jayhawks (6-3, 3-2 in Big 12) are still tied with Missouri atop
the Big 12 North. MU beat Baylor today at Waco, Texas, 31-28.
*KU scored its first touchdown this season on the opening drive,
marching 81 yards on 11 plays.
*KU’s 52 points against KSU is the second-most by the
Jayhawks in the series. Kansas racked up the most points versus the
Wildcats in 1947 with a 55-0 shutout.
*Junior Jake Sharp rushed for a career high 181 yards and four
touchdowns. His four TDs tied a school record for a single game with
Brandon McAnderson, June Henley, Tony Sands, Curtis McClinton and
Charlie Black. Sharp has a season-high nine rushing touchdowns and 16
for his career. He needs three more TDs to tie him for ninth place in
school history for career rushing touchdowns with John Riggins, Gale
Sayers, Bobby Douglass and Forrest Griffith.
*Junior quarterback Todd Reesing also set a season high with 47 rushing
yards. KU rushed for a season-high 280 yards, its most since gaining
288 yards against Texas Tech on Oct. 6, 2001.
*Reesing completed 14 of 23 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown,
marking the second straight game he’s been held under 200
passing yards. Still, Reesing needs just 83 more passing yards to break
Frank Seurer’s career record (6,410).
*Sophomore Dezmon Briscoe caught his 10th touchdown pass this season,
tying Marcus Henry’s school record. Briscoe now has 17 career
receiving TDs, tying him for first place all time with Willie Vaughn
and Bruce Adams. Briscoe caught three passes for 40 yards on Saturday,
marking his 15th straight game with at least two catches.
*Senior defensive end Russell Brorsen recorded two interceptions.
Brorsen, who actually played tight end his freshman season, has three
career interceptions with his other one also coming against K-State on
Oct. 6, 2007. Brorsen became the second KU player to pick two passes in
the same game this season. Safety Phillip Strozier had two
interceptions against FIU on Aug. 30.
*KU played aggressive defense against the Cats, recovering two fumbles
and intercepting three passes. This marked the first time KU forced
five turnovers since the Nebraska game last season. Kansas has forced
14 turnovers in the last three games versus K-State, including six
against the Wildcats in 2006.
*Kansas now heads to Lincoln next Saturday for a matchup with Nebraska.
The Cornhuskers (5-3, 2-2) play at No. 4 Oklahoma tonight. KU whipped
Nebraska 76-39 on Nov. 3 last season in Lawrence, recording the
third-most points in school history and the most ever allowed by NU.
The Jayhawks broke loose for a school-record tying 34 first downs and
572 yards of total offense. Reesing led the attack, setting
school records with touchdowns in a game (6) and a season (23). He
completed 30 of 41 passes for 356 yards. KU will be aiming to win
back-to-back games over Nebraska for the first time since 1967 and
