Omar Wilkes and the LA Loyola Cubs began the Ocean View Tournament of Champions with a double digit win over Canyon Springs. The tournament features top teams from Southern California and takes place December 9-14th at Huntington Beach.
According to Loyola High School sports information the final score was 96-85, with Omar Wilkes tallying over twenty points for the team.
"Wilkes looked really solid, said Frank Burlison of Fox Sports. His shot looked good, his mid range game looked good, he just looked good."
"Wilkes spent most of the game matched up against Tron Smith, a big strong guard who is signed with Arizona State. He was on balance and not getting knocked around by bigger players. That has been a bit of a problem in the past, but not yesterday," continued Burlison.
Kansas fans may remember local player Keith Wooden also committed to Arizona State.
Next up for Loyola is Clovis West. Potentially Loyola could meet the defending state champions, Westchester, later this week.
Sophomore Jordon Wilkes is also on the Varsity team, but did not play Wednesday.
This past weekend the Cubs defeated all three teams it met in AMDG Tournament in Phoenix by more than twenty points.
