UCLA's dropping into a zone defense in the second half slowed down the Jayhawk attack, and the defensive intensity seemed to wane for the 'Hawks, also. Kansas did manage to stave off a second-half attempt by UCLA to get back into this one, as the Bruins managed to pull within 11 points with nearly five minutes left to go in the game. A three-point jumper from Kirk Hinrich with just under three minutes remaining sealed the Bruins fate.
Final Score: Kansas 87 UCLA 70.
Kirk Hinrich had the hot hand for Kansas, finishing with 27 points, one shy of his career high. The big men, Wayne Simien and Nick Collison, added 19 and 18, respectively.
The Jayhawks' next game is on the road at Cal December 28.
