It's been a big spring for Kyle Collinsworth. After a strong junior season at Provo High, the 6-foot-5 wing from Utah had some solid showings on the grassroots circuit. In fact, he even earned an invitation to the prestigious NBPA Camp held last weekend in Charlottesville, Va.
"It's good," said Collinsworth of the camp. "The competition was good and you've got to play at your best every play. You get tired and get a good workout."
"You're used to coming from where you are the man and take all of the shots. You've just got to do the little things like play defense and help yourself out."
A tall playmaker who has evolved ball skills for a wing, Collinsworth is also a good shooter from deep. He also prides himself on his defense pointing out that that he does it for him, even when others don't.
"I don't know, it just comes from the heart I guess," said Collinsworth. "You've got to keep going and help yourself out. Defense is for you and you have control over it."
On the recruiting front, Collinsworth has already cut down his list to a final group.
"It's going pretty good, I'm starting to narrow it down a little bit," said Collinsworth of his recruitment. "I have a top five right now of Kansas, Arizona State, BYU, Virginia and Stanford. Virginia, BYU and Stanford have offered. Arizona State is close, I took an unofficial visit there recently, they just need to see me more."
Collinsworth also took a recent visit to Lawrence, Kan. for Bill Self's elite camp.
"It was a good visit," said Collinsworth of Kansas. "There was some good basketball and I learned a lot. It was fun. They are getting a whole bunch of new stuff there. They've got a new practice facility, Allen Fieldhouse is being fixed and stuff. It's really nice up there."
For now, Collinsworth is going to play out the summer with Utah Pump ‘N Run before setting up in home and official visits after the summer is over. Then, he'll look to make a decision in the early signing period. "Early Fall, I'd say, as of right now," Collinsworth told Phog.Net of when he'll make a decision. "I'm not sure yet. I'll just sit down with my family."
