Alumni Association Book Give Away at Cal Game

LAWRENCE–All fans attending the KU vs. California game Dec. 22 in Allen Field House will receive a holiday gift from the KU Alumni Association: The Champions: Kansas Basketball at the Pinnacle, a commemorative book highlighting KU's three national basketball championships.

The Association will give the books away as a reminder of the value of Alumni Association membership.

The Association's 45,000 members help strengthen KU through important efforts in legislative advocacy and student recruitment. Most recently, the Association helped secure state approval for an expansion of the KU School of Pharmacy and the first scholarship program for out-of-state students whose parents and grandparents are KU alumni.

And, of course, the Association for more than 125 years has chronicled KU history and preserved its traditions through efforts such as the Champions book. "We hope those attending the KU-California game who aren't already Association members will consider joining our ranks, " says Association President Kevin J. Corbett. "As our No. 1-ranked Jayhawks appear poised for another championship run, we want to share this keepsake and honor KU's proud basketball heritage."

The Association published the book in late 2008 in partnership with KU graduate and renowned sports photographer, Rich Clarkson. Clarkson witnessed all three of KU's consummate championship journeys—in 1952, 1988 and 2008.

The 112-page hardcover edition includes a foreword by Clarkson and an essay by his Sports Illustrated colleague Grant Wahl, in addition to essays by players from each of the three victorious teams: Bill Hougland, Chris Piper and Darnell Jackson. Top Stories
