Kansas Still in the Mix for Thomas?

With teammate Darrian Miller recanting on his Kansas commitment this week, KU fans are wondering whether the news might affect Bernard Thomas' consideration of the Jayhawks. The latest from Phog.net's Aaron Cedeño, inside.

That Bernard Thomas was talented enough for an offer was never in question to the coaches at the University of Minnesota.

But there was something they needed to check on first.

"I guess on my film I looked kind of short," said Thomas, a three-star cornerback prospect from Blue Springs (MO) High School. "They said my talent was good enough for the offer, but they just wanted to check on my height."

"(Gopher assistant Kevin Cosgrove) said if I was taller than him, they were going to offer," he added, laughing. "He was like, 5-foot-9 and I'm pushing 5-foot-11.5."

Thomas has seen his recruitment pick up at a steady pace this spring, owning offers from Arkansas, Kansas and Tulsa. In addition to Minnesota, Indiana has shown a similarly increased level of interest, and Thomas expects both to offer shortly.

Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma and Tennessee have come calling at different times as well, with the Tigers pushing Thomas to add their camp to his summer calendar.

"(Tigers assistant coach Andy Hill) said they're very interested in me," he said. "They have a spot open for a cornerback, and he wants me to come to camp and try to get that spot."

Once the summer hits, Thomas will attend a pair of camps at the very least – those at Oklahoma and Tennessee – with the expectation of earning additional offers. From there, he hopes to have his recruitment wrapped up well in advance of the start of his senior season at BSHS.

"Whatever offers I'm going to get are going to come by the end of July," Thomas said. "I should have my offers and know where I want to go."

One team that remains high on his list is the Jayhawks, from whom his close friend and BSHS teammate Darrian Miller decommitted earlier this week.

"That doesn't throw Kansas out for me or anything," Thomas clarified. "I want to go to school with him, but it doesn't knock KU or anything like that. I'm still very interested in KU."

Thomas cites a top four of Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
