KU's Manning Impresses Woodbury

Adam Woodbury knows the opportunity to work with one of the best big men to ever play the college game isn't one that comes along every day.

So when the chance arose for the 2012 center prospect to attend Elite Camp at the University of Kansas this weekend, and spend a couple of days learning under Jayhawks assistant coach Danny Manning, he jumped at it – for obvious reasons.

"I was trying to be a sponge with him, and soak up the knowledge he has," Adam Woodbury said, of Manning. "The little tips he could give me to work on in my game."

Overall, the camp experience was a positive one for Woodbury. As one of an extremely talented group of prospects gathered in Lawrence this weekend, he not only had the chance to work in individual drills with the coaches, but scrimmage with his fellow campers and members of the current Jayhawks squad.

"It was a lot of fun," Woodbury said. "It was a great experience playing against those guys. They're quick, powerful and they show me what kind of things I need to do to get to their level, and how the game is played when you're an elite D-1 athlete."

Already standing 7-feet tall and possessed of a rapidly-developing game on both ends of the court, Woodbury has been the recipient of attention from a number of college coaches out on the recruiting trail this spring – including the University of Kansas.

While attending Elite Camp, he had the chance to speak further with Jayhawks assistant Joe Dooley, who has been his main recruiting contact to date.

"He actually sat down with me, (2012 guard Marcus Paige) and (2012 guard Mike Gessell) and ate lunch with us yesterday," Woodbury said Saturday evening. "And we talked a little bit about the camp and how it was going, and just touched base a little bit."

With his AAU squad, Martin Brothers Select, enjoying a bit of a break from a rugged summer schedule, Woodbury will join Paige in St. Louis next weekend for the Nike Hoop Jamboree – an annual gathering of the top underclassmen in high school hoops.

Woodbury currently holds scholarship offers from Creighton, Drake, Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska and Utah.
