He said – "They mix and match out the back end with some coverage's, they blitz from a safety position and sometimes bring a corner. We haven't seen as many safety blitzes or secondary blitz's as we are going to see this week.
"It's important that we can recognize all the various fronts and make all the correct calls especially in (pass) protection. Last week we missed a call that cost us a sack an Mike did a good job of holding the and not fumbling."
Offensive line coach Mike Summers talked about the importance of communicating on the line. He said – "For us up front, that's the main aspect to us playing well and getting all five guys to understand what the front is and know their responsibility. "The center sets the point we all have to identify with. We can't always hear the call. We identify by practice, by inference, by repetition what we are looking at and communicate our combinations.
The center's play at the line of scrimmage is critical before the snap of the ball. He sets the front, sets the blocking and based on his call we can be on the right guys. Center Matt Smith said it is going to be different. "We always talked about how we were going to run our plays against that defense but we have never had to face it until Saturday," Smith said.
"A lot of the plays on the 3-4 defense I can get hung out to dry so I have to depend on the other guys to help me to deal with the nose (guard) because they can go either way. For instance, I could step to my left and he could step to his left so I'm naked so I have to have some backside help but we have some thing I think will work."
