I like Harrellson. I think Harrellson is a better player than a lot of UK fans realize. I watched him a lot in games and in practices last year. I know people say he is slow and can't keep up, but I don't think that is the problem. I think he just loses focus, especially on the defensive end. I think once his focus gets better, he will get more playing time. He is a threat on offense, he is a big body and I think he understands the game because he has played in the system. I think he will be a factor early on until maybe Vargas can pick up the system.
Vargas was in Florida most of the summer and wasn't here so he is a little behind still and has to catch up. He was able to dominate on the junior college level, but there are still adjustments at this level he has to make. He is 6-11. You can't teach that. He has tremendous size and a willingness to get in there and mix it up. You have to accept your role on the team and his role is he has to be a garbage guy, a banger, a bruiser.
Jones can be more of a finesse, skilled guy, but Vargas has got to be a guy take up space in the paint and play tough. I have not really seen much offensively from him, which means if he is going to contribute on the offensive end he has to do it by crashing the offensive board and maybe getting garbage baskets. I think he is a good athlete and if he can sprint the floor maybe he can beat his guy in transition. Those are things he's going to have to do because I don't think there are going to be many plays called for Vargas to run and score. He has to find other ways to contribute to the team offensively.
