Goodwin enjoyed UK visit

John Calipari recently signed his third straight number one recruiting class for the Kentucky Wildcats. He'd like to have a fourth consecutive class of that caliber in 2012, and a player like Archie Goodwin would be a fantastic start.

Five-star shooting guard Archie Goodwin visited Kentucky recently on an unofficial visit. Goodwin is one of the most talented players in the 2012 class and holds offers from several schools and with good reason.

"I am a combo guard that can score and get my teammates involved," said Goodwin. "I love to play pressure defense and force turnovers. I can get to the rim and finish through contact and I love to pull up off the dribble," said Goodwin.

As a junior, Goodwin is also aware of what he wants to improve.

"I am improving my range on my jump-shot and just continuing to get better at every aspect of the game," he said.

Goodwin and his Sylvan Hills High squad are preparing for their first game on Tuesday night. Goodwin likes his team's chances to make a strong showing this season.

"I am looking forward to this season because we have a good team and a good chance to win state this year," he said.

Goodwin holds offers from over 20 programs, including Arkansas, Memphis, Tennessee, Illinois, Georgia Tech, LSU, Texas, Kansas and Missouri. Kentucky and North Carolina have shown heavy interest in the guard as well. But Goodwin is taking his time.

"I don't have any favorites at this point because I want to give everyone a fair chance," he said.

Goodwin checked out Kentucky's campus recently and came away impressed.

"I loved the visit," he said. "I got a chance to meet all the players and coaches. I had a good time. Everywhere I went, I got love from everyone and that means a lot to me," he said.

Goodwin has a good impression of the UK program.

"I like coach Cal, the way they play and the atmosphere. At Kentucky they set you up for greatness and that's what I'm looking for," he finished.
