Ashely Lowery could play a number of positions for the Kentucky Wildcats in his career. He played running back for White County High (Ga.) as a senior, but has also played defensive back in high school as well. UK likes Lowery as a safety and if he bulks up, he could be a linebacker.
What we do know is that Lowery had a good year, helping his school to a 9-3 record and a 2nd round berth in the playoffs.
"I felt like I had a break-out season. I was able to step up into my role as the team leader and make history in my county for a group of young men who will never be forgotten," Lowery said.
Lowery, 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, is still working on several parts of his game and working on his body in order to get ready for Kentucky.
"I'm working on speed and strength right now," he said. "I feel like I have high enough football I.Q. to be able to catch on to the formations after a week or so," he said.
Last weekend, Lowery was on campus at his future home, checking out the sights in Lexington on his official visit.
"I was up with my family on my official. It went great and being the only recruit there, I was able to spend a lot of time with all the coaches and some of the players, trying to build a bond," he said.
One specific thing about the visit and UK stood out most to Ashely.
"The thing I liked most was the character of the coaches and the Kentucky family," he said. "And not to mention the utmost respect that was shown to my family by everyone," he finished.
Lowery will be signing with Kentucky on Wednesday.
