Knight a Bob Cousy Award Top 10 Finalist

Kentucky's Brandon Knight has been named a Bob Cousy Award Top 10 finalist. The award is given annually to the nation's top point guard.

LEXINGTON, KY – UK men's basketball freshman Brandon Knight was named a top 10 finalist for the 2011 Bob Cousy Award candidate as announced by The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.

Knight, a 6-3 guard from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., is averaging 17.5 points, 3.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game and has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week four times this season.

He currently ranks in the top 15 of six offensive categories in the Southeastern Conference including fifth in scoring, sixth in assists.

The annual award, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes college basketball's top point guard. 66 candidates have been nominated for the 2011 award. Nominations were solicited from all Division I, II and III schools across the country.

This original list of candidates will be narrowed down to the final five by March 3rd. A Hall of Fame appointed screening committee will be narrowing down the candidates from 20 to 10 to 5 prior to a Blue Ribbon Selection Committee evaluating the final five candidates and ultimately choosing the winner. Both of the Hall of Fame committee's are made up of top college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, Sports Information Directors and Hall of Famers. The winner of the 2011 Bob Cousy Award will be presented at the Hall of Fame's Class Announcement on Monday April 4th in Houston as part of NCAA Final Four weekend.
