SEC Media Day Coverage: Day 1

HOOVER, Ala. - We're live from the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, Alabama, home to this year's SEC Media Days event. Our Kentucky Wildcats will join the media frenzy tomorrow morning, but in the meantime, here are some tidbits from SEC Commissioner Mike Slive and other items to whet your appetite.

We look through the looking glass and see:

  • A near-empty media room. Of course, this was only thirty minutes into the lunch hour, and most were still hard at work on the delicious meal sponsored by new corporate sponsor, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach tourism.
  • Fox regional recruiting expert Laura McKeeman visiting with KSR's Darrell Cartwright and Larry Vaught.
  • An SEC intern hard at work handing microphones to media asking questions.
  • The Coaches' Trophy, emblematic of the national champion. Rumors swirled very strongly with a Danny Sheridan interview on the Paul Finebaum show that the NCAA was hot on the trail of possible major infractions with Cam Newton. Will this Trophy have to be returned?
  • Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino. As we will see with eleven other coaches, he likes his team, and believes they will be pretty good. Wash, rinse, repeat.
  • Crowd gathering around an Arkansas player to interview. Although the SEC extended the number of players each school brought to three, theoretically spreading the love, large crowds still tended to gather around the "most popular" one.
  • All three of Arkansas' players were well-dressed. It was a good day for men's styling. Will Kentucky's trio of Danny Trevathan, Stuart Hines and Morgan Newton live up to what we saw today? Do you remember some past Kentucky flair at previous media days?
  • OK, so we slipped in a nostalgic picture for old time's sake. Can you find the picture slightly out of date?

Much more tomorrow. Kentucky is on the clock at 8 a.m. local (CT.)
