Miller, Team USA notch exhibition win

HUIZHUI, CHINA - The USA Mens World University Games team notched an 88-61 win over Chinese professional team New Century in an exhibition game at Huizhui Stadium. Vanderbilt's John Jenkins was the USA's only double digit scorer with 24 points on 8-of-10 from 3-point range, while Kentucky's Darius Miller tied for team-high rebounding honors with eight and chipped in seven points on 2-4 shooting.

New Century bothered Team USA with their height, but the torrid outside shooting by Jenkins sparked a 14-0 run in the second period to overcome an early eight point deficit.

"I thought this was a great game for our team to get ready for the World University Games," head coach Matt Painter said. Painter, who is also the head skipper for the Purdue Boilermakers played ten players 17 minutes each in the game, with one player limited to 13 due to foul trouble. "I thought our depth was really the key to our victory," Painter added.

Team USA will open play in the 2011 World University Games on August 13 against Mexico. Tip-off is set at 6 p.m. China Standard Time (+ 12 hours from Eastern Time).
