Kentucky picked up what most people believe to be their top running back prospect – Shadrach Thornton. Thornton visited Kentucky this weekend for the Florida game and gave the Wildcats a verbal.

The 6-foot-1, 207-pound running back from Liberty County (Ga.) picked Kentucky over offers from Georgia Tech, North Carolina State and Vanderbilt.

Thornton is a power running back with good open field speed. He's also a player who should have a chance to play early if he can pick up on the blocking schemes in short order. The Wildcats were also his first scholarship offer back in the spring.

"Coach Pardue is the new running backs coach at Kentucky and he coached at LaGrange High in Georgia before going there," Thornton told Scout.com's Chad Simmons. "We played LaGrange a couple years ago in the playoffs and Coach Pardue remembered me. He told Coach Joker Phillips about me and they offered me," Thornton finished.

So far, Liberty County is 2-2 with Thornton leading the way with 822 yards and eight touchdowns.

Kentucky Sports Report will have more with Thornton as it's available.
