Cats land Scout's #16 ranked 2012 player

Clarksville, Tennessee 5 star wing forward chooses Kentucky

Earlier this afternoon Alex Poythress ended one of the most speculated upon recruitments of the fall. The Clarksville, Tenn., Northeast wing forward chose Kentucky as his collegiate destination. At one time or another in recent weeks Memphis, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and even Florida were rumored to be destinations for the five star forward.

Poythress should step right in and play a majore role for Kentucky. The Wildcats will lose last season's SEC Tournament MVP Darius Miller at the small forward position at the end of this season. In addition to losing Miller there is also a possibility that Kentucky could lose Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to the NBA.

Poythress joins five star guard Archie Goodwin and four star center Willie Cauley as members of the class of 2012.

Adding Poythress to the class elevates the Kentucky class in the rankings, and brings to Lexington three top flight athletes.

Scout's Evan Daniels wrote today, "With Poythress' commitment, Kentucky jumps to No. 2 in Scout.com's 2012 recruiting class rankings. The Wildcats finished No. 1 in the past three recruiting class rankings."

Kentucky continues to pursue several players in the class of 2012.

Scout's Brian Snow evaluates the Kentucky class in The Roll Continues.
