Davis: "It makes it a lot easier. He is keeping the defense honest with his jump shots. He is making the right plays, smart plays. He is listening to coach Cal more. If he keeps playing like that, we will be an excellent ball club."
Question: Did Arkansas players really overhear you telling teammates to let Arkansas players drive inside because you would just block the shot?
Davis: "No, that's not the first time I have said that. I just tell my teammates when you come in, just put your hands up. You are altering the shot and they won't shoot over you and somebody can come over and block it. Doron Lamb stopped on one play and I just told him to keep his hands up and not commit a silly foul and I?would come over and block it. There's no point in getting silly fouls the way we can block shots."
Question: What do you make of setting a single-season blocked shot record only 20 games into the season?
Davis: "It's just a confidence boost. My teammates reminded me I?had the record, but we just have to move on to the next game."
Question: How much better can you get?
Davis: "Just keep putting in the work, stay in the gym and I?can get a lot better. That is for everybody else on the team as well. We just have to keep getting in the gym and getting better and better."
Question: Does that mean we have not seen all Anthony Davis can do?
Davis: "Not really. I still have more than I?have been showing. I jusst have to keep getting better by working on my shooting, ballhandling, free throws and finishing at the rim."
Question: How did you learn to block shots so well since you were a 6-2 guard until your late growth spurt as a junior?
Davis: "I just remembered when guys used to block my shots and it kind of made me mad. It just became a habit. Nothing special about it.?I just learned how to do it."
Question: Did you ever play on a shorter rim when you were younger and think how nice it would be to play that high above a 10-foot goal?
Davis: "Yeah, I did. When I was 6-2, we always played with the rim down about eight feet or nine feet so we could dunk the ball. We would block each other's shots. Now my goal is still to play like it is a short rim."
Question: How high a rim could you dunk on? Davis: "I?have no idea."
Question: Could you get to 13 feet?
Davis: "I don't think so." Question: Was this game an overall confidence boost for the team?
Davis: "No, we just came out and played. It was a confidence boost for some guys, especially Terrence (Jones) because he really got going this game. He just wanted to go out and play like he can play. We just went out and played hard from the start. We just didn't hold back."
Question: How much have you improved offensively in the last month?
Davis: "We have been in the gym a lot working on post moves and moves I?can use in the game. It has made it a lot easier. Earlier I would not have been able to make some of the moves I can do. Got to give it to my coaching staff for helping me. A month ago I probably would not have even called for the ball in the post. I may have made it seem like I?was calling for the ball, but in my mind I was like, ‘Please don't throw me the ball." But now I?am comfortable calling for the ball. My guards see me and get me the ball."
Question: Does anything on the court ever frustrate you?
Davis: "Not really. I?try to keep a straight head. Whether we get a turnover or miss a shot, just keep playing and get back on defense and try to get the ball back."
Question: Are you playing more physical as Arkansas players suggested?
Davis: "I just try to stay low. Use my quickness and use my lower body to my advantage. I?know they are way stronger than me, so I really have to stay low."
Question: How do you feel about being compared to former UMass and NBA player Marcus Camby by coach John Calipari?
Davis: "Well, Marcus Camby is a great player. He's been in the NBA a long time. Compare me to one of those guys is just a great comparison. It's an honor for me. He says Marcus didn't have the skills I?have, but that I?have the mentality just like him."
Question: What about Calipari suggesting it would be nice to have you play three years for him like Camby did?
Davis: "If it happens, it happens. But we are just worrying about this season right here. You can't predict the future. We are about finishing this season out strong."
Question: Was Arkansas your best game at Kentucky?
Davis: "Yeah, I took advantage of my scoring opportunities and my opportunities to go out and play defense to the best of my ability."
