Vaught: Q&A with Terrence Jones, Part I

Terrence Jones on Trent Johnson's comments that UK will win a national title if he plays as he had Saturday. "I think every player that plays a large amount of minutes is important. Definitely we have different guys that step up in different games. Last year I?think was the big key to how far we went that a different player made a big impact in the tournament."

This is part one of a two part series. In this installment Terrence Jones discusses Tennessee and the evolution of Kentucky as a team, and him as a player.

Question: What do you expect from a second game against Tennessee?

Jones: "It should be fun because of how much they competed last time we played them. I feel they have had a lot more games to get better and we have to. It should be an exciting game. It will be good playing at home with the crowd there for us. It should be real loud."

Question: How good do you feel about your 27 points, nine rebounds and three blocks at LSU Saturday? Jones: "Real good, just because it was within the offense and came naturally because of how hard I was running the floor and rebounding."

Question: What about LSU?coach Trent Johnson saying Monday that if you play like that Kentucky will win the national title? Is your effort that important to this team?

Jones: "I think every player that plays a large amount of minutes is important. Definitely we have different guys that step up in different games. Last year I?think was the big key to how far we went that a different player made a big impact in the tournament."

Question: Do you feel you are a different player than Tennessee saw in the first game and is it harder to beat a team a second team?

Jones: "With all of the bigs, they play a lot more physical and we will be better prepared. It was harder for the away games than any team we played (for a second time) just because they felt they had a chance at home. The coaches know pretty much what we did and how we scored and they will want to take that away the second time. As long as we execute, we should be fine."

Question: Why are you playing better right now?

Jones: "It is just from working out and being more prepared. I?am not worrying about my hand. Doing all the drills as hard as I can like I?used to. I am trying to play like I did last season."

Question: Was freshman Jarnell Stokes, who had just graduated from high school in December, a big surprise with his play and number of minutes in his first collegiate game in that win at Tennessee?

Jones: "I don't think he really made that big an impact. Whatever he had really was not that big to me. It should be fun just playing Tennessee. Every game in the SEC for us we pretty much get the best of the other team. We have to respect every team in the SEC."

Question: Were Tennessee players right the first game when they said their physical play bothered UK?

Jones: "I think it has been that way for us the last couple of games since we have played them. It did bother us then, but we are more ready for that type of play and should do better. It did bother us there."

Question: Are they more physical than other teams?

Jones: "They were one of the first teams that played us that way, but since then ever game has been like that. We have to get used to that and adjust."
