Kentucky landing summer camp recruits

Summer camps are a key element in football recruiting. Fifteen players who signed with Kentucky earlier this week attended camp at Kentucky last summer, including Zach Blaylock (pictured).

Kentucky coach Joker Phillips was asked about the number of Kentucky signees who attended camp at Kentucky last summer.

Phillips replied, "Lots! Lots! I know the Blaylock triplets were in our camp, I can tell you that! I've been asked that numerous times, Chapman was in our camp, Patrick Graffree was in our camp, Foster was in our camp twice."

The Kentucky staff reported to Phillips that 15 of the signees at camped at UK last summer.

Phillips took the opportunity to give his staff credit for the job they do in evaluating prospects they get on campus for camp in the summer.

Phillips said, "I value (assistant coaches') evaluations. We had two sessions when they were in our camp, that's two sessions to work with 'em and that's what I value."

A key element to recruiting on the collegiate level has been to get targets and potential targets into camp during summer months. The camps provide an opportunity for position coaches to evaluate kids against competition. The process also gives potential recruits an opportunity to see the staffs of schools in action and to see facilities at the schools where they camp.
