Cousins had a rocky start to the season, butting heads with then head coach Paul Westphal before the Sacramento Kings fired Westphal early in the season. Since then he has been on fire.
The most recent effort produced a 38-point, 14 rebound performance on the road in Houston. Alas, it was not quite enough, as the Kings dropped the contest in overtime to Houston. Interestingly, the game also produced a career high 24 points from ex-UK power forward Patrick Patterson, who also hit the game-tying bucket to put the game into overtime.
Will this game be the "breakout" game for Cousins, elevating him to the superstardom status? Time will tell, but the future looks bright for the young man. The relationship with new head coach Keith Smart appears terrific, with Smart even joking with Cousins two games ago, and allowing Cousins to finish a Kings' victory by donning Smart's coat and coaching the team.
