Kentucky baseball # 2 seed in Gary, Indiana

The Kentucky Wildcats baseball team earned a # 2 seed in the West Lafayette Regional, the NCAA announced today. Kentucky was surprised yesterday with the revelation that they did not earn one of the 16 host regional sites.

Kentucky is one of eight teams from the Southeastern Conference to make the field of 64. Three other SEC teams--# 1 Florida, # 7 LSU and # 8 South Carolina--earned national seeds and will host all the way to the College World Series as long as they continue to win. Kentucky had a combined 6-3 record against those teams.

Kentucky (43-16) will face # 3 seed Kent State (41-17), while # 1 seed Purdue (44-12) will face # 4 seed Valparaiso (35-23), with the games beginning on Friday in the double elimination tournament. The winner of the West Lafayette Regional is paired up against the Eugene (Ore.) Regional, with Oregon hosting.
