Kentucky is one of eight teams from the Southeastern Conference to make the field of 64. Three other SEC teams--# 1 Florida, # 7 LSU and # 8 South Carolina--earned national seeds and will host all the way to the College World Series as long as they continue to win. Kentucky had a combined 6-3 record against those teams.
Kentucky (43-16) will face # 3 seed Kent State (41-17), while # 1 seed Purdue (44-12) will face # 4 seed Valparaiso (35-23), with the games beginning on Friday in the double elimination tournament.
