LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Kentucky is still four months away from its first game of the 2001-02 season, but Tayshaun Prince has already secured his first accolade.
Prince, a senior forward, has been tabbed as the Southeastern Conference's preseason player of the year by Lindy's Sports Annuals. The 6-foot-9 native of Compton, Calif., is the reigning SEC player of the year after averaging 16.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season. He was a second-team selection on the AP's All-America team and earned a spot on the 10-member All-Wooden team.
After becoming the 48th member of UK's prestigious 1,000-Point Club as a junior, Prince considered entering the NBA Draft, but withdrew his name from the pool in May.
