Lee set to announce Wednesday

Four-star Antioch (Calif.) Deer Valley center/forward Marcus Lee plans to announce his college choice on Wednesday. Will it be California or Kentucky?

In a surprising development, four-star Antioch (Calif.) Deer Valley center/forward Marcus Lee says he will forgo his final official visit with California this weekend and announce his college choice on Wednesday.

Lee's brother, Bryan, confirmed the news to FoxSports/Scout on Tuesday afternoon. He is expected to choose between California and Kentucky during a ceremony "around noon" Pacific Time (3 p.m. ET) at the high school.

Many expect the Wildcats to be in strong position to add Lee to a potential No. 1 class that already includes Texas twin guards Andrew Harrison and Aaron Harrison, Michigan swingman James Young and Kentucky forward Derek Willis. Lee was recently on the UK campus with all of those UK commitments for "Big Blue Madness" this past weekend.

"It went really well," Bryan Lee said of the visit. "Big Blue Madness was exciting and a good chance for the players to see how they mesh."

That may not mean he's a lock for the Cats, though. Lee also made several unofficial visits to California over the last year, so he's very familiar with the Berkeley campus and Cal staff.

The 6-foot-9 Lee is rated the No. 2 center and No. 38 prospect in the country by Scout.

Bryan Lee, the player's older brother and adviser during his recruitment, told KentuckyScout in late September that UK's involvement made the decision "that much harder."

"The pride in their school, he loves that," Bryan Lee said of Kentucky. "They have incredible school spirit and support from their fans. He just loves how big basketball is there. California is a little different. There's so much stuff to do, everybody's into so many different things. You don't get the emphasis on college sports like you have with basketball at Kentucky or football in Texas.

"The arena will be sold out every night. It's just a different environment than he would experience at Cal."
