DESTIN, Fla.  --- Former Kentucky standout James Whalen has been named to the Southeastern Confernce's 1990s All-Decade Team, league officials announced Tuesday in conjunction with Media Days.

Whalen, a tight end who came to UK as a walk-on, set two NCAA records as a senior in 1999. His 90 receptions and 8.2 receptions per game are both national records for the position. During his senior season, he had 1,019 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, figures which helped him earn All-America honors from the Football Writers Association of America, the Walter Camp Football Foundation, The Associated Press, CNN/SI, CBS Sportsline, Football News and The Sporting News.

Representatives from eight schools made the All-90s squad. Voting was done by members of the media representing all nine SEC-area states as well as several national media outlets.

Tennessee had the most players on the first team with seven, while Florida had the most total selections with 13. Alabama had five players selected on the first team. Auburn and LSU each placed three on the first unit.

Former Crimson Tide offensive tackle Chris Samuels received the most votes in the balloting, being named on 24 of 25 received.
