Winter Park (Fla.) High School defensive back Blake McClain says he is a "soft commit" to Kentucky now that the Wildcats have announced a coaching change at the end of the season.
"I just don't know what's going to happen, who's going to be there, so it's really hard for me to say right now," McClain said. "I'm going to have to build a relationship with whoever comes in as the new coach before I can say whether I'm still going to Kentucky."
McClain (5-11, 180, 4.5) is a three-star cornerback who had three interceptions as a senior for Winter Park.
Even before the official news of Joker Phillips' dismissal broke, he suspected it would happen.
"I know they've been struggling, so you kind of know it could happen," he said. "I was still sorry to hear it. He's a great coach and a great guy. I really wanted to play for him."
McClain recently took an official visit to Iowa State which "went really well." He is also considering Pittsburgh, Arizona and "maybe Wake Forest." He has four available official visits remaining.
Asked if Kentucky could still be one of those visits, McClain, who committed in June, said: "Possibly. It all depends on who the new coach is. I just have to wait and see what happens."
