Kentucky's Donte Rumph was named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week for his strong performance in the Wildcats' 34-3 win over Samford.
Rumph, a junior from South Carolina, recorded five tackles (four solo), a sack and a forced fumble on Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium. His sack and strip led to Tristian Johnson's 25-yard touchdown return in the second quarter.
Led by Rumph's push on the front line, Kentucky held Samford to minus-2 net rushing yards and only 102 yards of total offense. It marked the lowest figure surrendered by a UK team since the 1996 season.
Through 11 games, Rumph has recorded 34 tackles, five tackles for lossm, four sacks and one forced fumble. He had a season-high six tackles and a sack on Sept. 29 against his home-state South Carolina Gamecocks.
Rumph wasn't the only Wildcat defender honored for his play last weekend. Junior linebacker Avery Williamson was named Honorable Mention Linebacker of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards after making 13 stops against Samford. It was the second honor of the season for the Tennessee native, who leads the SEC in total tackles at 128 and is third in the nation in tackles per game with 11.6.
Williamson became the first UK player to record 13 or more tackles in four consecutive games since Randy Holleran in 1990.
