Kentucky's J.T. Riddle was named SEC co-Player of the Week on Tuesday coming off a season debut that saw him reach base in 15 of 18 plate appearances and collect nine consecutive hits.
The junior second baseman from Frankfort shared league honors with Florida's Zack Powers, who had two grand slams in a win over Duke.
Riddle helped No. 8 Kentucky (3-0) to wins over UNC Asheville, Niagra and USC Upstate. In Sunday's win over Niagra, he became the first player in modern-era UK history to go 6-for-6 at the plate.
The Bluegrass State's 2010 "Mr. Baseball" out of Western Hills High School, Riddle had three doubles, one triple, one home run and six RBI on the opening weekend. He collected 19 total bases with a 1.357 slugging mark and a .824 on-base percentage.
The Wildcats return to action Thursday at the Caravelle Resort Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina at Pelicans Park. UK will face Kansas State on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET in a game that was originally scheduled for Sunday, but was changed due to inclement weather in the forecast. The Cats will play Elon on Friday at Noon and Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 3 p.m.
