Kentucky recently extended a scholarship offer to a three-star Louisiana offensive lineman whose recruitment has really taken off heading into the summer.
When the Wildcats were added to a list that already included programs like Alabama, Florida State, Houston, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, San Diego State and Vanderbilt, the news initially caught Bailey Granier off guard.
"I was a little surprised," said the 6-foot-7, 320-pound standout from Galliano (La.) South Lafourche High School. "I hadn't really heard much from (UK) until last week, then they just kind of jumped into it.
"It's still pretty fresh for me, but I'm glad they offered. I'm just trying to finish up with school right now before I take a closer look at everything."
Granier visited Alabama and Mississippi State during the spring. He said he plans to take some additional unofficial visits in the summer, but hasn't finalized his schedule yet.
Getting to know his recruiting coach at UK, Bradley Dale Peveto, could help in drawing a visit to Lexington.
"I've spoken with him briefly over the phone a couple of times," Granier siad. "He seems like nice guy, funny guy. He was telling me a story from when he was at LSU, I think, and he and a linebacker had a contest to see who could eat the most crawfish. I think they both had to give up and call it a tie." (Laughs)
Offensive line should be a priority for UK in recruiting the Class of 2014. The Cats signed only four O-Linemen in February and do not have a commitment from that position group among their seven verbal commitments for 2014 to date.
