Four-star Cincinnati defensive back Mike Edwards has known for quite some time that he wanted to be a Kentucky Wildcat. On Monday, he made it official.
Edwards had given a verbal commitment to UK on a previous unofficial visit to Lexington earlier this spring, but decided to slow down the process after returning home to discuss matters with his family.
On a return trip today, he decided to end the process and cast his lot with the Big Blue Nation. Edwards confirmed the news via Twitter.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Winton Woods High School standout is ranked the No. 28 cornerback prospect in the country by Scout and FOX Sports Next. He picked UK over scholarship offers from programs like Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisville, Missouri, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
His commitment brings UK to 13 verbals in the Class of 2014. He joins fellow corners Shyquawn Pullium and Jared Tucker in what might be the best group of defensive backs that the Wildcats have ever received verbals from in one class.
Kentucky's class currently sits at No. 12 in the Scout/FOX Sports Next national team rankings. It is fifth in the SEC behind Texas A&M (1), LSU (5), Tennessee (6) and Alabama (7).
