Young named SEC Freshman of Week

James Young became the second Kentucky player to be named the Southeastern Conference's Freshman of the Week this season when the league honored him Monday.

James Young became the second Kentucky player to be named the Southeastern Conference's Freshman of the Week this season when the league honored him Monday.

Young, a 6-foot-7 wing from Michigan, led the Wildcats with 26 points last week in a 105-76 win over UT-Arlington at Rupp Arena. He knocked down five 3-pointers en route to a new career scoring high to go along with three assists, two rebounds and two steals.

The former McDonald's All-American is second on the team in scoring at 14.2 points per game. He leads the Cats with 12 3-pointers.

Earlier this season, UK forward Julius Randle was named SEC Freshman of the Week.

Kentucky (4-1) returns to action tonight in a matchup with Cleveland State. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Rupp Arena with live TV on FOX Sports.
