The Sunshine State appears to be a major point of emphasis moving forward for Mark Stoops & Co., who recently issued a scholarship to a talented sophomore.
Malek Young (5-10, 173, 4.4) plays wide receiver and defensive back at Coconut Creek High School in Florida. The 2016 athlete recently was offered by Kentucky, but also holds an offer from Eastern Michigan and has been picking up interest from Florida State, Miami, UCF, and FIU.
Asked about his reaction to the UK offer, Young said: "I was ecstatic when (UK assistant) Derrick Ansley offered me ascholarship. In fact, my uncle was ecstatic with me.
"My uncle, Leeanthony Frazier, ran track at Kentucky. He's told me how great the campus is. I honestly can not wait to visit UK's campus. I'm very ecstatic at the thought of playing at the University of Kentucky."
Young added that the family connection to UK makes the Wildcats a clear-cut favorite early in his recruiting process. He also noted how good the academics were at the school, "especially the one I want to major in. I plan on majoring in Sports Medicine."
He currently has no timetable on making his college decision, but plans some summer camps and unofficial visits .
