Another of the members of the Kentucky 2014 recruiting class has faxed his letter of intent to the Wildcat coaching staff. Darryl Long is officially a Wildcat.
SCHOOL: Westerville (OH) South
SIZE: 6-foot-5, 230-pounds
POSITION: Tight end
STAR RANKING: THREE-STAR
POSITION RANKING: Number-44 tight end
First off is the physical size at 6-foot-5, 230-pounds, and the type of frame to carry another 15-20 pounds comfortably. Long is very athletic, and has the ability to go down the seam and catch the football. He fits in well with how Kentucky
plans to use the tight end under Mark Stoops
. There is a school of thought that Long could grow into an offensive tackle, but I see him staying at tight end in the Kentucky system, and being a pass-catching threat.
WHY KENTUCKY: "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to come in with my class and turn the program around. To try to make history and just the experiences and opportunities I'll be blessed to have next year," said Long.
Long, who refers to himself as a, "real receiving tight end," says that there are some things he's working on improving before he gets to Lexington.
"Right now I'm working on overall strength, speed, route-running and blocking technique," he said.
