Tubman (6-5, 225, 4.6) originally committed to James Franklin at Vanderbilt. He switched his verbal to Penn State after Franklin left the Commodores to take the head coaching job with the Nittany Lions, but UK stayed in close pursuit all along.
"The coaches were very persistent," Tubman said, "... and their track records were great from Florida State."
The three-star prospect also held offers from Louisville and Nebraska. He said he made his decision last weekend after consulting with his mother.
"Having family in the state of Kentucky who can support me," Tubman said of his choice. "Having a family base around, I feel comfortable with the decision."
He also cited fellow UK in-state signees Drew Barker and Matt Elam as big factors in his decision to flip to the Cats. Kentucky landed four of the top five propsects in the Bluegrass State this year.
Tubman joins Denzel Ware and Tymere Dubose as projected defensive ends for the Cats, but could also see some action at outside linebacker similar to the way Alvin "Bud" Dupree was used in his first two years at UK.
