Cats offer Whitlow's cousin

Kentucky has issued a scholarship offer to the cousin of current Wildcat Jalen Whitlow. Read more about him and the family connection in this AllWildcats update.

There's been some major family ties in some of Kentucky's scholarship offers in the Class of 2015 to date.

Earlier this week, Ohio offensive lineman Josh Myers, the brother of current UK center Zach Myers, picked up an offer from Mark Stoops' staff. Now you can add the cousin of current Wildcat quarterback Jalen Whitlow to the list.

Three-star Opelika (Ala.) High School defensive end Quandeski Whitlow had been flying slightly under the recruiting radar, but is now drawing interest from several major programs across the South.

Whitlow (6-4, 225, 4.7) is coming off a junior season which saw him record 43 tackles, eight tackles for loss and five sacks.

"Right now I'm hearing the most from Kentucky, Auburn, Vanderbilt and Southern Mississippi," Whitlow said. "I would say right now, though, Kentucky is my clear-cut favorite.

"When Coach (Derrick) Ansley offered me, I was in shock. I didn't hear from them until recently when he invited me to attend their Junior Day this upcoming weekend. I do plan on coming this weekend."

Florida State, Georgia and Mississippi State have also inquired about Whitlow with the Opelika coaching staff.

Asked about how the scholarship news was received by his family, Whitlow said: "I've already talked to my cousin, Jalen, about the offer, and he's told me about how great the staff and campus is. I'm excited about coming this weekend."

He currently has no timetable on his college decision.
