Reed HR highlights UK's second win

Junior All-American A.J. Reed homers, doubles and drives in four as Wildcats move to 2-0 on season with win over UNC-Wilmington.

Junior All-American A.J. Reed connected for his first home run of the season and drove in four runs Saturday to help lead Kentucky to a 10-4 win over UNC-Wilmington.

Reed hit a three-run homer and also doubled in a run as the Wildcats (2-0) had a strong follow-up performance to their season-opening win over No. 1 Virginia. After collecting 11 hits on Friday, UK banged out 12 against the defending CAA champions.

Kentucky also got the 44th multiple-hit game of Austin Cousino's career. The junior centerfielder went 2-for-4 with a walk and stole his second base of the season. Sophomore outfielder Ka'ai Tom went 3-for-3 with an RBI in his UK debut, and sophomore outfielder Kyle Barrett went 2-for-5 with a double and a stolen base.

Max Kuhn, Matt Reida and Connor Heady each had one hit to round out the UK offensive attack. Reida also drove in a pair of runs.

Chandler Shepherd (1-0) started on the mound for UK and allowed only two runs on four hits through 5.2 innings. The junior right-hander from Louisa, Ky., carried a one-hit shutout into the sixth inning before giving way to Logan Salow and Spencer Jack. The Wildcat relievers allowed no earned runs and combined for six strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.

UNC-Wilmington (1-1) started Jordan Ramsey, the 2013 CAA ERA leader (2.34), but the Cats got to him for 10 runs on 10 hits though 4.2 innings.

Kentucky returns to action Sunday against VMI at 10 a.m. ET in the multi-team event at UNC-Wilmington's Brooks Field.
