Kentucky is hoping to flip the commitment of a player who is currently slated to play for another Southeastern Conference program.

The Wildcats' secret weapon? Family.

Three-star Vicksburg (Miss.) Warren Central defensive back Chris Stamps gave his verbal to Mississippi State in February, but his cousin, A.J. Stamps, is currently excelling in his first spring at UK.

"My cousin, A.J. Stamps, goes to Kentucky and he's been telling me about coaching staff there," he said. "He's told me the coaches are really good coaches, that they're moving the program in the right direction. I've been talking to him since I've got the offer. With him being there at UK, it definitely makes me favor Kentucky in a way, but I still have still have to make the decision that is best for me."

A.J. Stamps played at Vicksburg High School before moving on to East Mississippi Community College, where UK assistant coach Jimmy Brumbaugh was working at the time. Brumbaugh is also handling Chris Stamps' recruitment for the Cats.

The prospect says he plans to take some visits in the summer, including a trip to Lexington to see the UK campus.

"I'm looking at a place with great coaches, where I can get my education, and where I can win some college games," Stamps said of the key factors in his decision-making process.

He is in no hurry to make another verbal commitment, stating his final decision may not come until signing day.
