Outfielder Sylver Samuel hit an inside-the-park home run and pitcher Kelsey Nunley held DePaul to one run on five hits Sunday to highlight Kentucky's 10-1 win and send the host Wildcats on to the next round of the tourney.
Kentucky (47-16) will advance to the Los Angeles Super Regional next week to face third-seeded UCLA. Dates and times for the games have yet to be determined.
It marks UK's second consecutive appearance in the Super Regional and third in the last four seasons, all under seventh-year head coach Rachel Lawson.
To get there, the Cats bounced back from a Saturday loss to DePaul, putting the Blue Demons away with one run in the first inning, six in the second and three in the third.
Samuel went 2-for-3 with two RBI, as well as junior catcher Griffin Joiner. Sophomore shortstop Christian Stokes added one hit and three RBI for the Cats.
"I think our hitters decided to put the team on their back and go out and score runs," Lawson said. "In the other games, I think Nunley did a good job of putting the team on her back, and I thought we had good defensive play, but I think that the mindset of the team, offensively, was we need to get this done."
Nunley (27-8) took care of the rest, shutting down the DePaul offense. The Blue Demons had no hits from the 4 through 9 spots in the lineup.
Kristin Verdun, who led DePaul (44-11) to victory in Saturday's game with a walk-off single, had two of her team's five hits, but also suffered the pitching loss, allowing seven runs (one earned) in two innings. Hindered by three errors from the Blue Demons' defense, she finished her season 33-7 in the circle.NCAA Lexington Regional Schedule
