SEC awards two future tourney sites

Two future sites for the SEC men's basketball tournament were announced Tuesday during the league's annual meeting in Destin, Fla.

According to a report by The Associated Press, the SEC tourney will be played at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis in 2018, the first time the event will be held in that city and a move aided by the addition of Missouri as a league member two years ago.

Tampa was awarded the 2022 SEC tourney at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The last time the city played host to the event was 2009.

The league is currently in a long-term deal with Nashville that will feature the SEC tourney the other nine years between 2015 and 2025.

It will mark a long departure from frequent SEC tourney site Atlanta, known as "Catlanta" to many UK fans due to their overwhelming presence at the Georiga Dome, which has hosted the event 12 times since it was resumed in 1979.

Kentucky has dominated the SEC tourney over the years, winning the championship 27 times compared to 26 titles won by the rest of the league combined.

SEC Commissioner Mike Slive also announced that the league is sticking with an 18-game schedule, but is likely to move to three "permanent" opponents for each team instead of the one that was featured last season. UK's current "permanent" opponent is Florida. Speculation has Tennessee filling one of the other two spots.
