Cats enter Maker mix

One of the top players in the Class of 2016 – or will it be the Class of 2015? – has picked up a scholarship offer from John Calipari.

Thon Maker, a 7-footer in the junior class who is mulling moving up a year, received the offer from Kentucky on Sunday, the first day that college coaches were permitted to resume contact with underclassmen.

Maker, who plays for the Carlisle School in Marttinsville, Va., is currently rated the No. 3 player in the 2016 class by Scout. He also holds offers from programs like Arizona, Kansas, Duke, Louisville, Georgetown and Virginia, among others.

A native of the Sedan, Maker has drawn many comparisons to a young Kevin Garnett due to his combination of size, athleticism and versatile post/perimeter skills.

Should he decide to move up a year, he would join a list of other 2015 UK big men targets that includes Diamond Stone, Ivan Rabb, Cheick Diallo, Henry Ellensonm, Stephen Zimmerman and Caleb Swanigan. It's a class rich with options on the low block.
