Battle visiting Cats

Fresh off a visit to Louisville which yielded a scholarship offer from the Cardinals, the top shooting guard in the Class of 2016 was scheduled to be in Lexington today.

Five-star Gladstone (N.J.) Gill St. Bernards shooting guard Tyus Battle, the No. 7 prospect in his class, was set to meet with John Calipari & Co. during an unofficial visit.

The 6-foot-6, 195-pound Battle has a growing list of scholarship offers that includes UK, Louisville, UConn, Ohio State, Michigan and Syracuse and Villanova, among others. In a NJ.com report earlier this month, Battle said he was "honored" to hear from the Wildcats.

He and Eron Gordon are the two highest-rated shooting guards in their class. Both are receiving interest from the Wildcats. Battle plays for the same AAU program as 2015 UK target Cheick Diallo, Team Scan, and is reportedly also close friends with another UK target in the 2016 class, five-star point guard Derryck Thornton.

As a sophomore, Battle averaged 22.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game and earned second-team New Jersey all-state honors.

The following Scout report gives an overview of Battle's skillset:

Battle is a big-time perimeter shooter with easy range from downtown and also is a capable pull-up shooter who elevates very high off the dribble. He's a fine handler as well with an above-average first step, and thus he can play without the ball or use it to create for himself. He's slender but not frail, and over time he should develop ample strength to play on both ends of the court. He's also an above-average athlete.
