Sophomore center Jon Toth was named to the Rimington Trophy fall watch list on Tuesday. The award, named for former Nebraska All-American Dave Rimington, has honored the nation’s top collegiate center for the last 15 seasons.
On Monday, UK senior defensive end Alvin “Bud” Dupree was named to the Bednarik Award watch list.
Toth (6-5, 298) is one of only five sophomores on the list. The Ohio native became UK’s full-time starter at center in the second game of the 2013 season. He was part of an offensive line that helped three different Wildcats rush for 400 or more yards, the first time that feat has been accomplished at UK since 1986.
He was named the the SEC All-Freshman Team by the league’s coaches and was also on the league’s academic honor roll in 2013.
The SEC has 11 centers on the preseason watch list among the 66 players nominated nationally. The winner will be recognized in a ceremony at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Neb., on Jan. 17, 2015.
Since its inception, the Rimington Trophy has raised over $2.5 million for the cystic fibrosis community. The fifteen-year-old award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $100 million for CF Research.
