The Wildcats’ senior defensive end was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list on Thursday, an award that honors the nation’s top defensive player. Earlier this week, he was announced as a watch list candidate for the Chuck Bednarik Award.
Dupree (6-4, 267) is one of 23 defensive ends on the Nagurski watch list.
The Irwinton, Ga., native is coming off a junior season which saw him lead all SEC defensive linemen with 61 tackles. He also had a team-high 9.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks.
The Nagurski finalists will be announced on Nov. 20 by the FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club. The winner will be honored on Dec. 8.
In 1995, the FWAA named the award in honor of the legendary two-way player from the University of Minnesota. Nagurski dominated college football then became a star for professional football's Chicago Bears in the 1930s. Bronislaw “Bronko” Nagurski is a charter member of both the College Football and Pro Football Halls of Fame. Pittsburgh tackle Aaron Donald won the award last season.
