LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Todd Tackett's basketball career at the University of Kentucky has apparently come to an end.
Tackett, a junior reserve guard who redshirted last season, has informed UK coach Tubby Smith that he plans to concentrate solely on baseball.
The former Paintsville all-stater averaged only six minutes per game in his first two seasons with the Wildcats, and saw little chance of that figure increasing with a talent-laden 2001-02 roster. He shot only 19 percent from the field and averaged less than a full point in 40 games with UK.
``Maybe I would be satisfied and maybe you would be satisfied with being on a team that could win the national championship,'' the player's father, Jerry Tackett, told the Lexington Herald-Leader. ``But Todd wants to play.''
Tackett had previously come off scholarship to assist the overbooked UK roster.
