Cats drop Big Blue Bahamas finale

Much like their second game against Champagne Chalons-Reims on Saturday, the Wildcats' rematch with the Dominican Republic National Team was much tougher.

Kentucky saw a 13-point lead evaporate in the final eight-plus minutes Sunday as the Orlando Antigua-coached DRNT claimed a 63-62 win on Jack Martinez's fall-away jumper with 2.6 seconds left.

The Cats, playing their sixth game in eight days, showed the signs of a leg-weary team, making just two of their final 13 shots from the field. UK had been shooting 53 percent on the trip, but made only 40 percent (23 of 58) in the final game.

UK finished its Big Blue Bahamas exhibtion tour at 5-1.

Freshman point guard Tyler Ulis led the Cats with 12 points. Derek Willis and Karl Towns Jr. each followed with 10 points. Dominique Hawkins (7), Alex Poythress (6), Aaron Harrison (6), Dakari Johnson (5), Devin Booker (4) and Andrew Harrison (2) rounded out the offense for UK.

Poythress, who had been leading UK in scoring on the exhibition tour, appeared to fall ill midway through the second half and did not play much after the break.

Former Cat Eloy Vargas had four points and six rebounds against his alma mater, including a key defensive rebound prior to the DRNT's final possession.
